This week, we introduce you to Acacia Ambers, also known as Honey. Acacia gets real with us about some of her struggles, and how kindness helped her overcome them.
How did you get started in the clip industry?
AA – First, a little background on me: my name is Acacia Ambers, But you can call me Honey if you want to. I’m 23 years old and I’ve been a part of the sex work community since July of 2018.
I’ve always had an interest in sex work but never saw myself having the right persona for it. I have a big personality but I’m shy. Just like any other job it takes a lot of work and adaptation to your environment and the people around you. Character development is constant.
In 2018, my boyfriend brought the idea to my attention, and I jumped in headfirst. There was no second-guessing, I wanted to do this and I wasn’t going to let shame or stigma stop me. I made a new Twitter, started selling nudes, shoe customs, you name it.
Throughout the learning process, I also learned a lot about myself. Taking care of myself, after 11 years of what seemed like a losing battle with anorexia nervosa and physical health issues, became a priority again. I began to love my body in all its shapes and sizes for the first time in my life. I grew up. I did the work. I engulfed myself in self-care.
Shortly after my career started, I was hospitalized because of my eating disorder and some other lifelong health issues. I was given a nasogastric feeding tube (placed in my nose), and weeks later as my condition worsened, I was taken into surgery to have a PEG feeding tube inserted in my abdomen.
There really was no say on how long I’d have the tube in my belly, and I was really nervous that I would no longer make sales or clients happy because I looked so different from most non-disabled sex workers. I was happy to find the exact opposite. I was welcomed with kindness, and (mostly) thoughtful questions.
That is one thing I will always be able to count on in this industry: you’ll always receive hate, but kindness is immeasurable.
